Dijsselbloem: Extension of program could provide 'protective umbrella' for Greece

An Ecofin meeting was completed in Brussels on Tuesday without any mention of the possibility of an agreement between the Greek government and the country's Euro zone partners.

After the conclusion of the meeting, Eurogroup head Jeroen Dijsselbloem commented on the status of talks with Greece. Specifically, when asked if any progress has been made with regard to the negotiations, he said:

"We will wait and assess the situation. We have a common interest (with Greece) to stabilize the economy of the country and the extension of the current program will offer a protective umbrella and buy both sides some time. We believe it is the best way forward. "
