Tourists increasingly opting for off-peak holidays
Demand for summer travel to Greece is shifting from the traditional peak months of July and August to earlier and later months such as May, June and September due to climate change and very high temperatures in the Mediterranean.
Therefore, after the unexpected decrease in travel receipts in July and August, the data published by the Bank of Greece on Wednesday show that in September the arrivals of non-resident travelers increased 6.6% year-on-year and the revenue by 7.9% - i.e. 260.7 million euros.
The fact that the increase in receipts is greater than that of arrivals shows that the average spending per capita has also risen, pointing to longer stays.
