Suspected child shooter jailed

A 19-year-old man has been remanded in custody in connection to the shooting and fatal injury of a 5-year-old boy in the Markopoulo area of Attica last week.

The Roma child was in a car with his parents when it came under fire from another car. The accused, also a Roma community member, admitted to shooting at the vehicle next to his, but claimed that the child's death was not caused by his gunfire.

The child was initially taken to the Markopoulo Health Center and then rushed to the Aglaia Kyriakou Children's Hospital, where doctors attempted to revive him through CPR, but were unsuccessful.

Authorities believe the intended target was the child's father.
