Suspect in fatal shooting of 5-year-old boy in Markopoulo surrenders to police

A 19-year-old suspected of involvement in the recent fatal shooting of a 5-year-old boy in Markopoulo, east of Athens, is now in the custody of the Greek Police (ELAS), state broadcaster ERT reported on Monday.

According to the report, the suspect voluntarily surrendered to authorities.

Five-year-old child killed in violent attack

A 5-year-old boy was killed in a targeted ambush Friday on his family's vehicle in Markopoulo, near Athens. 

The boy's family was driving through the area when gunmen opened fire, striking the child fatally in the head. 

Authorities located 23 shell casings from two separate guns at the scene, pointing to a brutal, premeditated assault. 

Deadly attack in which boy, 5, died likely planned in advance

It would appear that the perpetrators of the deadly attack on a car in Markopoulo, eastern Attica, in which a five-year-old Roma boy died as a result of a gunshot to the head, had planned an ambush in advance.

Police at the crime scene recovered fifteen 9 mm and eight 40 mm casings, indicating that the attackers used two guns in the ambush.

The incident involving the shooting of a 3-year-old child in the head in Markopoulo ended tragically, as despite being transported to the “Aglaia Kyriakou” hospital, the doctors were unable to save his life.

According to reports, the child was brought to the hospital without a pulse, and the doctors attempted—unfortunately without success—to resuscitate him through CPR.

Deaths of bathers in Porto Rafti, Samos and Nafplio

Three people died by drowning on Saturday (27/7) in separate incidents in Attica, Argolida and Samos.

Specifically, at noon, the Port Authority of Markopoulo was informed that a 77-year-old Greek woman was pulled unconscious from the beach of Agia Marina, Porto Rafti.

She was transported by ambulance to Evangelismos, where she was pronounced dead.
