Belarusian delegation visits Serbian parliament
BELGRADE - Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna has visited the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to discuss with its officials ways to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries.
Kupchyna on Tuesday met with deputy parliament speakers Veroljub Arsic and Vladimir Marinkovic and Foreign Affairs Committee Chairperson Aleksandra Djurovic, who also heads the Serbian parliamentary delegation to the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly, as well as with Dragomir Karic, chairperson of the Serbia-Belarus parliamentary friendship group, the Serbian parliament said in a statement.
Welcoming his Belarusian colleagues, Arsic noted the need to intensify the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries.
He also highlighted the significance of interparliamentary cooperation for boosting the level of political, economic and cultural ties between Belarus and Serbia.
Marinkovic highlighted the significance of Belarus's role in achieving peace in Ukraine and its impact on global peace, stressing that this also has a very positive impact on Serbia's position and its OSCE chairmanship.
The officials of the two countries agreed that the good political cooperation needs to be accompanied by dynamic economic cooperation and a drastic increase in trade.
The goal of reaching a trade volume of EUR 500 million, which has been set by both countries, is realistic, but hard work and more intense cooperation in all fields are still ahead in order to achieve the objective in mutual interest, Marinkovic noted.
Foreign Affairs Committee Chairperson Aleksandra Djurovic expressed support for getting Belarus involved in Council of Europe forums.
