DRI files charges against current, former officials

BELGRADE - The State Audit Institution (DRI) announced on Thursday that it has filed 204 requests to launch misdemeanour proceedings, 17 criminal charges and 19 corporate offence charges against current and former officials.

The charges were filed following the publication of 134 financial and regularity audit reports for 2013 as part of the 2014 audit programme, the institution said in a statement.

The requests for misdemeanour proceedings were filed due to failure to comply with the provisions of a large number of laws, including the budget system law, Serbia's 2013 budget law and the public procurements law, the statement said.

The DRI said that it filed the criminal charges for transfers of funds exceeding approved amounts, negligence and abuse of office.

The DRI filed charges against Energy Minister Aleksandar Antic, Labour Minister Aleksandar Vulin, Minister without portfolio Velimir Ilic and former Minister of Finance Mladjan Dinkic, former Minister of Agriculture Goran Knezevic, former Minister of Transport Milutin Mrkonjic and others.
