Kukan hopes for opening of first chapters in 2015

BELGRADE - The European Parliament (EP) supports Serbia in its European integration and it appreciates the progress the government has achieved on the path, Head of the EP Delegation for Relations with Countries of South East Europe Eduard Kukan said on Thursday and expressed the hope that the first chapters in the accession talks would open in the course of the year.

At the beginning of the session of the European Union-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee, Kukan said that the EP delegation in Belgrade today, which has 14 members, is the largest one in EP history which points to the major interest of the European body in Serbia.

We had a chance to see the political will and commitment to Europe at the Thursday meetings with Serbian leadership and we appreciate the progress Serbia has achieved, Kukan said.

He noted that Serbia opened the pre-accession talks last year and expressed the hope that this year will be the year when the first chapters officially open in the negotiating talks.
