Kukan: Nikolic should not attend parade in Moscow

BELGRADE - Eduard Kukan, head of a delegation of the European Parliament (EP) on a visit to Serbia, has told Belgrade-based daily Blic that Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic should not attend a military parade that will be held in Moscow on May 9.

According to Kukan, Nikolic, like other leaders of Western countries, should only visit the monument dedicated to the soldiers killed during World War II.

If the Serbian president does the same thing as other Western heads of state, which is to visit the monument to the soldiers killed in World War II, no one will blame him, Kukan said.

Czech President Milos Zeman and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will do just that during these few days. Therefore, what your president will do in Moscow - attend the parade or not - is very important, said Kukan.

Kukan also expressed concern over a joint Serbia-Russia military exercise announced for September.
