Belgrade Dance Festival to kick off in Novi Sad on Monday
NOVI SAD - The 12th international Belgrade Dance Festival (BFI) is to open in Novi Sad's Serbian National Theatre on Monday with a production of Milonga by the London-based Sadler's Wells theatre and choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.
The play is a fusion of Argentine tango and contemporary dance and was a chart-topper last year.
Cherkaoui is known for his experiments and explorations of far-away traditions and cultures, and this is the first production that studies the tango as a global phenomenon.
Until April 9, the festival, held under the motto of Catch the Light, will feature 20 plays from 11 countries and 360 performers.
The festival, to ceremonially open on March 25, will be held in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Vrsac and Pancevo.
The 12th edition of BDF will be heralded by 'Days of Dance' at the Yugoslav Film Archive, and an art photography exhibition by Aleksandar Antonijevic, principal dancer at the National Ballet of Canada and laureate of the 'Vip Invites' award, which will be held at the Progress Gallery in Belgrade.
