Museums to offer programmes free of charge on May 9-18
BELGRADE - "Museums of Serbia, Ten Days from 10 to 10", an event that will offer museum programmes from 10 am to 10 pm with entrance free of charge, will premiere from May 9 through 18.
The theme of the event is "Heroes of Cultural Heritage" and more than 50 museums across Serbia are interested in taking part, the organising committee, comprised of directors of national museums, said in a statement on Monday.
Bojana Boric Breskovic, director of the National Museum, noted that the unique campaign, aimed at strengthening protection institutions and establishing better communication with audiences, is the greatest joint effort undertaken by Serbian museums so far.
In May, the museum community will be celebrating several important dates, including the International Museum Day and the 11th European Night of Museums, which is a good reason to make the programmes free of charge for visitors, Boric Breskovic said.
Mirjana Menkovic, director of the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade, said that the "Heroes of Cultural Heritage" theme is not compulsory and that many of the museums that have joined the campaign can be expected to offer rich and varied programmes.
