Days of Belgrade to be marked April 16-19

BELGRADE - During the Days of Belgrade, which will be marked April 16-18, the Serbian capital will host renowned Russian director Nikita Mikhalkov, who will be declared the honorary citizen of Belgrade.

The slogan of this year's event is "In the rhythm of the city", and the program will be divided into three parts: "In the rhythm of history", "In the rhythm of music" and "In the rhythm of victory".

The organizers of the 14th Days of Belgrade announced an interesting program, which will comprise various artistic and cultural events such as exhibitions, concerts and presentation of traditional awards to individuals and groups that have contributed to the capital's development.

On the occasion of a great jubilee, the 70th anniversary of the victory over fascism, tours of historical sites will be organized including Nikola Pasic Square, the former location of a prison, and the Central Military Club, which used to house the Gestapo headquarters.

The Days of Belgrade are held every year marking two important days: April 16, the day when the Slovene name of the city of Belgrade is mentioned for the first time in the letter of Pope John VIII and April 19, the day when the keys to the city were symbolically handed over to Prince Mihailo Obrenovic in 1867.
