Nikodijevic: 13 mayors to visit Belgrade

BELGRADE - Thirteen mayors will be visiting the Serbian capital for the Capital Summit on April 22-24, and no such summit has ever been held in Belgrade or the cities of the region, the president of the Belgrade City Assembly Nikola Nikodijevic said on Tuesday.

"We wanted to send a clear message from here about the need for cooperation among all cities," Nikodijevic told TV Pink, the City Administration said in a statement.

The panel discussions will be theme-based and the participants will discuss European integration, in particular the pre-accession funds, which are very significant for Belgrade because we have used them scarcely in the past, Nikodijevic said.

"We have excellent utility infrastructure projects, but the capacities and possibilities are much broader and include the issues of transport, environmental protection, waste management, energy efficiency and 21st century urban planning," he said.

Nikodijevic noted that cities in the region are not rivals but, most of all, partners that can learn much from each other.
