DefMin Dusa, British General Bradshaw analyse regional security

Defence Minister Mircea Dusa and General Sir Adrian John Bradshaw, Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe analysed on Tuesday the regional security following the crisis in Ukraine; the two attended an international military exercise at the Smardan firing range of Galati County.

The Romanian minister also mentioned among the topics of the dialogue with NATO's Deputy SACEUR the security in the Black Sea and the joint measures for securing the Alliance's and EU's eastern flank; he said he and the general found that the steps approved at the NATO ministers' meeting in February and at the Allied Summit in Wales were followed as planned.

Dusa added that he and General Bradshaw discussed the way the Romanian troops were carrying out their missions in the operations theatres abroad, especially in Afghanistan; the Romanian Ministry of Defence has 650 soldiers in Kandahar, alongside 50 officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Also on table were the two NATO command centres to be established in Romania and the deadlines for making them operational; the planning of staff to serve in these commands; the measures taken by the Romanian Government to increase the Army's operational capability; the short and medium-term objectives for the army equipment and modernization; and the spending of NATO funds for Romania's military infrastructure.

Within this context, Dusa mentioned the military airfield in Fetesti; the Mihail Kogalniceanu and Campia Turzii bases; the firing range in Cincu; and Base 90 of Otopeni, where works worth nine million euros should begin...
