Parliamentary session broadcast in sign language too
BELGRADE - The Serbian parliament is debating a bill on the use of sign language on Wednesday, and for the first time hard of hearing citizens are able to follow more easily the broadcast of the session on Radio-Television of Serbia.
In cooperation with the Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing of Serbia, the Serbian parliament is providing sign-language interpretation, in an attempt to involve those citizens with special needs in this law-making process.
Tanjug learnt at the office of Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic that sign-language interpretation will also be ensured on April 28, during the debate on amendments to the bill.
According to Minister of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy Aleksandar Vulin, Serbia is home to 20,000 deaf and 30,000 hard of hearing citizens.
Vulin said that the proposed legal arrangements are already being implemented in 81 local self-governments.
