DS: Security sector is in poor condition

BELGRADE - The opposition Democratic Party (DS) rated the work of the Serbian government during its first year in office as unsatisfactory, pointing out as an example the current state of the security sector.

The recent tragic helicopter crash, the deteriorating living standard of the army and defense officers, and the fact that the prime minister is the acting coordinator of the Security Service Coordination Bureau, indicate that the security sector is in a poor condition, states a release i?ued by the DS-led shadow government.

"Creating a conflict between the Military Security Agency (VBA) and the ombudsman has contributed to and increased the damage whi? the defense minister is causing due to his ignorance and with the support of the prime minister" the statement reads.

Commenting on the work of the Interior Ministry, the DS notes that, despite the fact that there is no ?ief of Criminal Police Administration, that police officers use old equipment and are driven to the verge of poverty due to wage cuts, and that the homicide rate is constantly rising, this ministry is untou?ed by reform.
