A relative calling himself "Danail" filled in data for a man called Aleksandar Dimitrov, who is "blonde, with beard and long hair" and had stayed at the Backpackers hotel in Kathmandu.

Private national NOVA TV station aired a statement by Aleksandar's father Hristo Dimitrov who called on the Bulgarian authorities to help find the young man.

At least 3200 people have died as a result of the earthquake, thousands have been injured and millions displaced.

Aleksandar was sent to Kathmandu as a trainee at tourist agency by the NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences, a vocational institution based in the Netherlands.
