JusMin Cazanciuc submits to President his pick for DIICOT chief prosecutor

Justice Minister Robert Cazanciuc has submitted to President Klaus Iohannis his recommendation for Daniel Constantin Horodniceanu to be appointed chief prosecutor of the Directorate for Investigation of Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).

The Justice Ministry reports in a press release that following Horodniceanu's hearing and analysis of his management plan, the Prosecution Section of the Supreme Council of Magistrates (CSM) on Monday issued a favourable opinion on candidate Daniel Constantin Horodniceanu, the chief prosecutor of the DIICOT Iasi Local Service.

Under Article 54 (1) of Law 303/ 2004, the Chief Prosecutor with the Prosecution Office of the Supreme Court of Justice and Cassation, the Chief Prosecutor of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA), the DIICOT Chief Prosecutor as well as their deputies are appointed by Romania's President upon a proposal from the justice minister and the opinion of the Supreme Council of Magistrates from among prosecutors with an at least 10-year job seniority as judge or prosecutor, for a three-year term, with the possibility of the term being extended only once.

On Monday, Justice Minister Robert Cazanciuc said Daniel Horodniceanu is the best possible nominee for the position of head prosecutor of the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).
