"The event will bring together EU heads of state and government and will showcase the significance of the European project 70 years after the end of the Second World War, of the community of values and democracy represented by the European Union ? as a post-1945 peace guarantor on the European continent. The ceremonies will take place in Gdansk, a city that carries a special symbolism, as the place where the second world conflagration broke out on September 1, 1939 and the birthplace of the 'Solidarity' Trade Union, which contributed decisively to bringing down the communist regime in Poland, marking the beginning of the fall of the Iron Curtain in Central and Eastern European countries," reads the Presidential Administration release.
According to the source, the manifestations include a visit to the European Solidarity Centre in Gdansk, an academic debate (among historians) and a high-level political panel. The events will end with a ceremony at the Westerplatte Monument that honors the memory of the Polish defenders. AGERPRES
