IntMin on May 9, a day with multiple significance for Romania: War wounds - a reminder of peace preciousness

The wounds of war will always remind us how precious peace is, and this is exactly why we should be proud that Romania has today the most important security guarantees ever: we are part of the most important military alliance - NATO, and a member of the European Union, sharing the values of freedom, security and justice, Deputy Prime Minister for National Security, Minister of Internal Affairs Gabriel Oprea says in the message delivered on May 9, a day with multiple significance for Romania.

According to a release to AGERPRES, the Minister shows that for Romania, May 9, 2015 means 238 years since having gained Independence, 70 years since the end of World War II and the 8th anniversary as a member of the European Union, which is why we should honor all those who made possible all these landmarks in Romania's destiny, these historical stages that marked its existence and continuity as a national, sovereign and independent, unitary and indivisible state.

The minister also underscores that for each of the EU countries, May 9 marks the symbolic moment when the foundations of a one-of-a-kind economic and political partnership were laid.

"Europe Day is an occasion for celebration, but also a moment of reflection on the destiny and course of each of the countries that are part of the European Union. This is the time when we must remember that the European Union was established by the states which, setting historical disputes aside, have chosen to look to the future, for the good of their citizens.
