Ani’s tragic grandmother desperately clings to hope

“I still have hope that something else happened,” says the grandmother of little Ani, the young girl whose father killed, cut, boiled and disposed off in the trash.

“I’m a mother,” she says refering to her son Savvas Bakartzief who is currently held in prison for infanticide. She also holds Ani’s mother, Dimitrina Borisova, accountable for the heinous crime. ”Whatever happened, she knew!”

“I did not talk with my son today. All I said when I saw him is that I am here and ‘I love you’,” she says, adding that she doesn’t believe that her son could have committed the crime. “When he was little he would gather all the strays home. I still hope. It’s something else. I can believe anything else. Perhaps that he sold it, but not that he killed the child.”

She revealed that on Monday, Ani’s mother had telephoned her seeking help so that she could leave prison and help Savvas. “She told me to testify that she had asked me to keep the child. I don’t have her telephone number or any other contact!”
