Iohannis: Romania firmly supports OSCE efforts to strengthen peace, democracy and stability in Europe

President Klaus Iohannis sent on Thursday a message on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act, showing that Romania strongly supports OSCE efforts to strengthen peace, democracy and stability in Europe, and that solving the conflict in the Republic of Moldova remains a top priority for our country.

"I reiterate Romania's strong support for the role of OSCE in efforts to strengthen peace, democracy and stability in Europe and Romania's consistent attachment to the fundamental principles set forth in the Helsinki Final Act, which we consider the cornerstone of inter-state relations the Euro-Atlantic space," Iohannis said in the message conveyed through presidential advisor lazar Comanescu to the participants in the Conference "The Helsinki Final Act ? For 40 Years the Foundation of European Security," organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The President stressed that for 40 years now, the Helsinki Final Act represents the foundation of security on our continent and the principles agreed upon back then ? specifically respect for the states' sovereignty and territorial integrity, frontiers' inviolability, the prohibition of the use of force or threat of force in settling disputes between states, full respect for human rights and fundamental rights ? should further govern inter-state relations.

The head of the state emphasized the need for the fulfillment in good faith of the obligations incumbent on the states under international law.
