Partial Results Show AKP Loses Majority in Turkey, HDP Guaranteed to Pass Threshold
Partial results of the general elections in Turkey show that the ruling AKP party won the elections, but will lose its parliamentary majority, while the pro-Kurdish HDP is set to pass the electoral threshold with garnering between 12-13 % of the votes.
With more than 90 % of the votes counted, the main opposition CHP is second, while the far-right MHP gains the third place.
This means that support for AKP dropped by more than 7 % compared to the previous elections in 2011, while the entry of HDP into parliament will deny the ruling party from acquiring the required majority to initiate constitutional changes, which could have turned Turkey into a presidential republic.
Analysts predict that the results could lead to a coalition government between or early elections in case no agreement is reached.
HDP, which is the big winner from this year's elections, enters parliament for the first time as a single party and its co-leader Selahattin Demirtas ruled out any support to a new AKP government.
