Democracy demands more than a vote
In 2024, more people will vote in elections than any time before. This week alone, some 400 million citizens of 27 countries will elect their representatives to the European Parliament. On Tuesday, the result of elections in the largest democracy - India - will be announced. There, more than 968 million people voted, some 150 million more than in 2019.

Earthquake zone ready for local polls, says watchdog head
Supreme Election Council (YSK) head Ahmet Yener has announced that preparations for the upcoming local elections in the earthquake-stricken region of southern Türkiye are complete.
"As of now, our schools and container areas are ready for the elections," Yener told the media in the earthquake-hit city of Diyarbakır on March 7.

Parliament to elect its new speaker
The parliament will elect its new speaker on June 7, as Numan Kurtulmuş has applied as the joint candidate of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).
The five-day nomination process for the election of the speaker concluded on June 6 at 12 a.m.
On June 7, the 600 members of the parliament will gather to elect the 30th speaker.

Despite securing 47.84 percent of the overall vote, Kılıçdaroğlu faced a decrease in support in certain regions.
Nation showed its will with May 14 poll results at parliament: Erdoğan
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said the nation has displayed its will with the votes reflected at the parliament in the May 14 elections, which is in favor of the People's Alliance.
"On May 14, our nation actually declared its will by giving the majority of the parliament seats with 323 deputies to the People's Alliance," Erdoğan tweeted on May 22.
