Liberals to challenge Senate vote on Senator Sova's immunity at Constitutional Court

The Liberals claim a new vote has not been necessary and ask for the reinterpretation of the first vote in Sova's case.

The Liberals will challenge at the Constitutional Court (CCR) the Senate's vote on Social Democrat Senator Dan Sova's immunity, National Liberal Party (PNL) First Vice President Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu announced on Monday.

The Liberals claim a new vote has not been necessary and ask for the reinterpretation of the first vote in Sova's case.

The Senate rejected in a plenary vote last week the request of the Justice Minister to lift Sova's immunity, which would have allowed his apprehension and arrest pending trial.

The Senate leadership counted as a rejection a similar vote in March, but the Constitutional Court ruled the result unconstitutional because the Senate omitted to publish a decision. The procedure was eventually resumed, which is precisely what the Liberals are challenging.

"We are expecting a quick and correct conclusion on the lifting of Mr. Sova's immunity and the forwarding of his case to the Judiciary," Ungureanu declared.AGERPRES
