President Klaus Iohannis has sent a letter to the chairs of Parliament recommending Gabriel Vlase for director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE), according to the Presidential Administration.

Romania's opposition on Tuesday scored an important parliamentary victory when MPs backed its nomination of ex-premier Mihai Razvan Ungureanu as the next director of the Foreign Intelligence Service, SIE.

The Liberals will challenge at the Constitutional Court (CCR) the Senate's vote on Social Democrat Senator Dan Sova's immunity, National Liberal Party (PNL) First Vice President Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu announced on Monday.

The Liberals claim a new vote has not been necessary and ask for the reinterpretation of the first vote in Sova's case.

Prime minister, Victor Ponta says in a message on Friday, on the occasion of the International Labour Day, that 'Romania is a working people's country, and the solution for an economy that would bring prosperity to all (...) is to support all of those who are working.'

Prime Minister Victor Ponta, the head of the Social Democrat Party (PSD) reviewed on Monday the achievements of his governing over the past three years since the USL (Social Liberal Union, PSD's alliance with the National Liberal Party PNL) toppled the Democrat Liberal Party (PDL) government led by then PM Mihai Razvan Ungureanu.

Prime minister, Victor Ponta is inviting the MPs who three years ago have voted the censure motion which led to the dismissal of the government headed by Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu, to participate on Monday in an event on this issue to be staged at the Parliament Palace.

The former foreign ministers of Romania gathered on Friday, on the initiative of the incumbent head of diplomacy Bogdan Aurescu, in the first Consultative Council of the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE), to discuss the country's foreign policy priorities in its relation with the eastern neighbourhood, MAE informed AGERPRES in a release.

AGERPRES correspondent Florentina Peia reports: President Klaus Iohannis has arrived in Brussels on Thursday, where he will be paying an official visit until Friday.

President Klaus Iohannis said on Thursday, on Henri Coanda international Airport north of Bucharest, before departing to Brussels that he would transmit during the official talks he will have in the Belgian capital city the message that the deepening of the European integration is a priority of his mandate.

Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland of the United States Department of State says her visit to Bucharest on Wednesday is owed to President Klaus Iohannis, whom she wanted to meet.
