SYRIZA lawmakers want Parliament debate on recognition of Palestinian state

With cash running low in state coffers and still no bailout deal in sight, and despite the fact that the Greek economy is still mired in an official recession, members of ruling SYRIZA party’s parliamentary group have set their sights on the … Mideast problem.

The leftist party’s lawmakers want debate in Parliament for the recognition of a Palestinian state, saying they’ll do this in consultation with brash Parliament President  Zoe Konstantopoulou.

In fact, a Parliamentary group statement opined that the proposal was “sure to win a broad parliamentary majority.”

The announcement comes after a visit by the foreign minister of the Palestinian self-rule areas last week.
