Marijuana is more popular than cigarettes at US universities

According to a recent survey, the number of students of US Universities who smoke marijuana on a regular basis is higher than those who smoke cigarettes.

Almost 6% of the students of the University of Michigan who participated in the annual survey “Monitoring the Future” said they smoke marijuana almost every day during the last month. On the other hand, tobacco smokers in the university reach the 5%.

There is a remarkable reduction of smokers during the past years, since in 1999, 19% of the students stated that they smoked cigarettes on a regular basis.

According to the survey’s findings, it seems that teenagers and young people in US have been influenced by national campaigns on the harmful effects of smoking.
