One soldier killed, four wounded in PKK attack in Turkey's southeast

One soldier was killed and four security forces wounded Oct. 12 in an outlawed Kurdistan Workers? Party (PKK) attack targeting an operation team in the southeastern province of ??rnak.

Security forces conducted an operation on Mount Cudi to demolish buildings around some alleged graves of PKK militants. PKK militants attacked forces returning from the operation with long-barreled weapons and rocket-propelled grenades. Three soldiers and two temporary village guards were wounded as an armed clash erupted between the security forces and PKK militants. However, one badly wounded soldier succumbed to his injuries at the ??rnak Military Hospital.

Meanwhile, eight PKK militants who escaped from the organization surrendered to security forces in ??rnak, the Governor?s Office announced.

The number of members who have deserted the organization and surrendered to security forces in ??rnak and its districts has reached 953 since March 21, 2013, the statement added.
