Russian plane crashes in South Sudan (vid)

A Russian cargo plane crashed onto a river bank shortly after takeoff from Juba airport in South Sudan killing at least 41 people.

Among the dead are passengers of the plane and people on the the ground, according to media reports.

The crash was recorded on a video.

Presidential spokesman Ateny Wek Ateny told Reuters the plane was carrying 18 people, including the six foreign crew, according to official documents. He said 15 of them died and three South Sudanese nationals survived, including a child.

According to sources, there are three survivors, including one baby. Witnesses said that it seemed as it initially the plane would crash into a market area before the pilot diverted it.

Parts of the plane were scattered on the banks of the Nile with a few homes nearby.
