Whatever happened to the Manhattan Project of Kolonaki?

The Manhattan Project was to bring an air of New York to upmarket Kolonaki. Luxury penthouses with Acropolis and Lykavittos views complete with gymnasiums, masseurs and even bell boys for jobs to justify the 1,500 euro/month maintenance costs were to bring a cosmopolitan air to Athens. The idea was the brainchild of Miltos Kambouridis and Christos Ioannou aimed at drawing Greek and foreign international buyers willing and able to pay 5 mln euros for a 300 sq. meter suite.

One Athens in charge of the construction saw interest spiking when the project was unveiled. 9-floor flats with 26 autonomous homes. The 5 penthouses had their own pools, and there were four 3-level townhouses. Each flat had its own parking and basement.

The launching of the project a year ago was attended by businessmen, politicians and celebrities. Nine young businessmen had already shown interest in acquiring one of the golden keys, and even the name of Russian tycoon Dmitry Rybolovlev was mentioned amongst candidate buyers.
