Three children were wounded on Jan. 17 in the curfew-declared town of Cizre in southeastern ??rnak province, with one later succumbing to his/her injuries caused by shrapnel pieces which hit the garden of a mosque.

The three children were playing in the garden of the ?eyh Seda Mosque in the Kale neighborhood, which is about 1.5 kilometers away from the scene of clashes between the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and Turkish security forces, when they were wounded by a piece of shrapnel which hit the garden. One of the children was heavily wounded and later succumbed to his/her injuries, while the other two are currently under treatment.

Meanwhile, Peoples' Democratic Party ??rnak deputy Faysal Sar?y?ld?z claimed the object which hit the mosque was either a mortar or a bomb.

Sar?y?ld?z also said there had been no trenches or barricades in the neighborhood, as it had not been a scene of clashes.

In addition, locals living in the Cudi and Nur neighbors have been fleeing the district as the clashes between security forces and the PKK militants have intensified.
