British man of Iraqi origin flies to Idomeni to rescue his relatives
A British man has flown to the refugee camp on the Greek-FYROM borders at Idomeni to help 18 of his relatives get to UK.
Halo Rashid, 29, comes from Kirkuk in Iraq and claims he has been living in the UK for the past 16 years when he moved with his family.
As he told exclusively to MailOnline he holds a British passport and runs a dry cleaning business.
Mr Rashid said that he was contacted by the first members of his family to arrive at the camp five days ago. He then flew to Thessaloniki on March 7 and then arrived to Idomeni to rescue his family, including his pregnant sister and newborn nephew.
“I have been worried about them for some time” he said adding that ‘I knew that their lives were in danger if they stayed any longer, but after they set out I didn’t know anything until I got the news they were here.’
Mr Rashid said that he lived in east London until November last year and has posted pictures of himself in London on social media.
As he said, he studied business management at the University of Westminster and has travelled freely around Europe and back to Iraq in recent years, supporting his claim that he is a UK citizen.
