The anti-terrorist operation in the Belgian capital, which began on Tuesday, is continuing on Wednesday.

Belgian authorities in cooperation with French police are conducting a manhunt for suspects linked to last year's November 13 terrorist attacks in Paris.

The operation on Tuesday targeted a flat in the southern suburb of Forest. During the raid, a man armed with a Kalashnikov rifle was shot dead and four police officers were injured. A French policewoman was among the injured officers.

Brussels remains on high alert, with police searching for suspects who may have escaped the raid.

During the operation, one or several people fired at the police as it entered the flat. Three officers were injured as they were entering, while the fourth was wounded in a later shootout.

The suspect armed with Kalashnikov was killed on the street outside the flat.

According to Belgian media, the police is searching for two more suspects.

The killed gunman has been identified as an Algerian national, Mohammed Belkaid, the BBC informs.

Salah Abdeslam, one of the two suspects still on the run after the November 13 attacks in Paris, was not the target of the raid.

While the operation at the flat has finished, the search area is widening and it could possibly involve a second location.

Eleven people have been arrested and charged in Belgium in connection with the Paris attacks which claimed the lives of 130 people. After it turned out that several of the suspected attackers had lived in Brussels, a series of police raids have taken place in the Belgian capital.
