SYRIZA vs. SYRIZA on refugee crisis
The Greek government is facing opposition from its own MPs on the refugee crisis bill currently being at the parliamentary committee level, as Vasiliki Katrivanou and former Immigration Minister Tasia Christodoulopoulou expressed their strong reservations on violations of human rights in the agreement signed between Turkey and the EU in March. Both MPs are part of the new ’53’ in the left faction that are against the bill on grounds of human rights. During the discussion on the issue Thursday, Katrivanou clearly stated she was in favour of an ‘open order’ policy. Christodoulopoulo during her address also voiced he concerns regarding the breaches of human rights in stipulations in the bill and whether its implementation would be feasible before April 4.
