Bulgaria's Dimitrov Vows to Get Over Defeat at Istanbul Final
Grigor Dimitrov, the highest-ranking Bulgarian tennis player, apologized for his actions at the ATP Istanbul final on Sunday.
Dimitrov lost to Diego Schwartzman of Argentina after leading on him 7:6, 5:2.
Schwartzman, however, caught up with the Bulgarian, winning a tie-breaker in the second set and reaching the 6th game of the third set.
His Bulgarian opponent broke two rackets during the game, also doing so with a third one in the sixth game of set 3 at 40:40.
He thus granted the victory to Schwartzman without allowing him to win the final game.
Tenniskafe quotes Dimitrov as saying after the match that he was "entirely to blame" for his behavior.
He added he would leave the loss behind and was already looking forward to the Masters tournaments in Madrid and Rome.
However, he made clear he considered his performance in the current season much better than that in the previous one.
In 2015, Dimitrov lost his position among the ATP rankings' top 10, dropping out of the first twenty. That has been widely attributed to personal issues and problems with his coach.
