Political leaders from Europe and Central Asia are expected to meet in the Mediterranean resort city of Antalya on May 3 to discuss the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their implications for agriculture and rural development.

The agriculture ministers from 54 countries are expected to attend the three-day session of the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) regional conference for Europe (ERC).

Faruk Çelik, the Turkish minister for food, agriculture and livestock, told Anadolu Agency on May 2 that the FAO was an important international organization designed to fight poverty and hunger.

The ERC ministerial roundtable on May 4 is expected to address SDGs.

In 2015, a total of 193 countries adopted the SDGs aimed at ending hunger and poverty and ensuring the sustainability of development - goals that are at the heart of the 2030 agenda.

The conference is jointly organized by the Turkish government and the FAO.
