Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov Ousted from First Round in Stuttgart
The highest ranking Bulgarian male tennis player, Grigor Dimitrov, suffered a defeat in the first round of the Mercedes Cup tournament which is taking place in Stuttgart.
Dimitrov lost on Tuesday to Juan Martin del Potro from Argentina with 4:6, 2:6 in a match which lasted one hour and nine minutes.
This was the third encounter between the two players, with the Bulgarian failing to claim his first victory against his Argentinian opponent and recording his fifth consecutive defeat in all tournaments.
In the opening set, the two players exchanged their service games and the score remained equal until 4:4. In the ninth game, the Argentinian achieved a decisive break, came in the lead and went on to win the first set.
Del Potro started well the second set, recording a break in the opening game. He went on to win another break in the third game and came 4:0 in the lead.
Dimitrov managed to return two games, but the Argentinian did not have difficulties closing the second set and claiming the final victory.
Del Potro scored twelve aces, while the Bulgarian recorded only four and made five double faults.
