Suspected spy in 30-day custody
BELGRADE - The High Court in Belgrade has put a man suspected of spying for Croatia in 30-day custody.
After questioning the suspect on Sunday, the prosecutor's office launched an investigation against him and proposed placing him in custody to prevent him from escaping, witness tampering, repeating the offence or unsettling the public.
If found guilty, the suspect could face over 10 years in prison, the prosecutor's office said in a statement.
Media have reported the suspect was a 57-year-old retired army officer of the former Republic of Serb Krajina.
Following his arrest, made by Security Information Agency operatives, the prosecutor's office said the suspect, who has Serbian and Croatian citizenship, had lived and worked in Croatia until 1990, when he moved to Serbia.
