Migrants attempt to cross into Croatia illegally

SID - About 130 Pakistani and Afghani migrants who had spent the night in the open by a road near the border crossing between Sid, western Serbia, and Tovarnik, eastern Croatia, on Monday failed to break through a police barricade and get into Croatia.

Setting off across fields in another illegal attempt to cross the border, they were confronted by the Serbian police, who warned them they would not be able to return to Serbia if they got across.

Croatian police troops were also deployed along the fields to keep them from entering, the N1 TV reported.

Earlier on, Ivan Miskovic of the Serbian Commissariat for Refugees and Migration said about 100 migrants had been returned from the no man's land between Serbia and Croatia.

He noted the migrants had been offered accommodation in reception centers, but refused to accept it.
