Anarchists, far-leftists claim Nov. 15 firebomb attack on police
Anarchists and far-leftists claimed responsibility for a firebomb attack earlier this month against the police precinct in Exarchia, downtown Athens, saying the assault was an expression of solidarity against jailed anarchists and a protest against the government's creation of a "police state."
Declaring solidarity with the terrorist suspect Costas Sakkas and bank robber Marios Seisidis, the authors of the online proclamation said the attack on the police station was carried out by "organized anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist blocks of comrades (anarchists and communists)."
The attack, which involved 14 Molotov cocktails, coincided with a visit to Athens by outgoing US President Barack Obama.
It did not result in any serious injuries.
