Crete authorities uncover another weapons cache

Authorities on the southern island of Crete have arrested a suspect after uncovering a weapons cache containing a homemade explosive device, TNT, and a large quantity of ammunition. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, rented the storage space and installed aluminum foil at the entrance to block visual access to the interior.

Police investigate explosion outside event venue

Police in southeastern Attica are investigating the explosion of a device outside an event venue on the Athens-Sounio road.

The device had been placed on a bench outside the property, which is located near Agia Marina in Koropi.

The blast, which occurred shortly after midnight, caused material damage to the venue's fencing and shattered windows in adjacent businesses.

Man detained for throwing petrol bombs off balcony

A man was briefly detained on Wednesday night after he started throwing petrol bombs off the balcony of his apartment in the district of New Ionia, northern Athens.

The lit petrol bombs started a small fire amid dried grass, near the road, which was promptly extinguished when the fire service arrived, according to their press release. 

Government condemns attack on Supreme Court president’s house

Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis condemned the attack with Molotov cocktails outside the house of the president of the Supreme Court on early Thursday morning, saying the arrest of the perpetrators is "an absolute priority."

The attack occurred at 12.45 a.m. in the northern Athens suburb of Papagou, injuring a police guard and destroying his car.

Swedish lawmakers vote Tuesday on a controversial defense deal with the United States, which critics fear could lead to the deployment of nuclear weapons and permanent U.S. bases on Swedish soil.

The Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA) is a major step for a country that in March ended two centuries of neutrality to join NATO.
