Journalist Ahmet Şık referred to court for arrest

Turkish journalist Ahmet Şık, who was detained in Istanbul on Dec. 29 over several tweets and articles, has been referred to court for arrest.

Istanbul prosecutor Fahrettin Kerim Yerli had arrived at police headquarters to take Şık's testimony but Şık refused to answer Yerli's questions, lawyer Can Atalay said.

"You cannot interrogate journalism in this way. The same thing is happening as was happening five years ago," Şık said, referring to previous bogus investigations led by prosecutors allied to U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen. 

He was later referred to Istanbul's Çağlayan courthouse.
