Turkey extradites French ISIL ringleader to France

Turkey has extradited a French Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militant, who is believed to have been a key figure in recruiting French nationals to the terror group, to France this week, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Jonathan Geoffroy, nicknamed "Abu Ibrahim al-Fransi," was apprehended in Syria's al-Bab during the Euphrates Shield operation which the Turkish military held in coordination with the Free Syrian Army (FSA) earlier this year.

Geoffroy, who the United States declared "killed" in 2016, is known to have been a key figure in recruiting French citizens to the terror group and that he could reveal important information regarding the terror group's connections, Anadolu Agency reported.

The militant, born in Toulouse 35 years ago, has a Tunisian wife and two children who were also extradited to France, the agency said.

Turkey has extradited more than 200 French ISIL militants to France until this day, according to the report.
