Greek President, Prime Minister are vaccinated

President Katerina Sakellaropoulou was vaccinated against the coronavirus Sunday afternoon.

"This Christmas, science gave us the greatest gift," Sakellaropoulou said after her vaccination shortly after 2 pm Sunday.

Sakellaropoulou is the first of 45 state officials whose vaccination was given priority to keep the machinery of state operating smothly.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was vaccinated at 2:30 pm at Attikon hospital, in western Athens.

"This is a great day for science and for the EU which distributed the vaccine simultaneously to all members. We (officials) are being vaccinated first to show the vaccine is safe...our aim is to vaccinate the great majority of Greeks... We hope that, with time, even those of our fellow citizens who are suspicious of the vaccine will be convinced (vaccination) is the right way," Mitsotakis told reporters after...
