President Katerina Sakellaropoulou extended holiday greetings to Greeks abroad, recognizing their vital role in preserving Greece's ideals and promoting its cultural heritage worldwide.

Christos Rammos, head of Greece's independent privacy watchdog ADAE, announced on Monday that he will not run for President of Greece when the term of the current President, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, expires in March 2025.

Rammos had been proposed for the role by New Left, a splinter party from SYRIZA.

The countdown to the selection of Greece's next president has begun, with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis set to announce his pick for the country's highest ceremonial post in mid-January or by the end of that month at the latest. 

The decision will be taken during the holiday period following critical discussions in Hania on the island of Crete.
