Kustec sees ouster motion as chance to present ministry’s activities

Ljubljana – Education Minister Simona Kustec said she had expected the motion to oust her filed by four opposition parties today. “I accept it as an opportunity to again explain the activities of the Education, Science and Sports Ministry in my term.”

In presenting the work of the ministry, Kustec plans to pay special attention to its crisis response in education, science and sport after taking office, and its response to Covid-19.

“Using nothing but facts, I will demonstrate what we have achieved with our team at the ministry and in cooperation with other groups and what necessary steps have been taken for further development in child care, and education and sport in less than a year,” she said.

She said she would reject the grievances of the opposition with arguments and facts.

The minister reiterated that the Covid-19 situation was still extremely serious and demanding, and that a responsible society would fight it together through constructive dialogue, respect, understanding and consistent compliance with preventive measures.

“These are the answers for returning to what we know and our previous lives,” she said.

The opposition Left, Marjan Šarec List (LMŠ), Social Democrats (SD) and Alenka Bratušek Party (SAB), filed a motion to oust Kustec today over what they see as “unprofessional and harmful policies” in organising child care and education during the epidemic, which has led to the longest school and kindergarten closure in Europe. She was urged to resign before the vote.
