Serbian Capital Lights up to Celebrate Djokovic’s ATP Record
Belgrade on Monday celebrated the historic success of Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic, when he will have been at the top of the Association of Tennis Professionals list for the longest time ever.
Djokovic has now been at the top of the ATP list for 311 weeks, breaking the previous record set by Swiss player Roger Federer of 310 weeks, and making Djokovic's length of stay on the list the longest in tennis history.
Belgrade Deputy Mayor Goran Vesic said a projection of recordings showing Djokovic's best moves in his career so far will be shown on the facade of the City Assembly building from 7 pm to 10 pm on Monday evening.

"In addition, messages of gratitude to Djokovic will be written on billboards to which the Belgrade City Assembly is entitled, and buildings in the Serbian capital that have built-in decorative lighting - the Albanija palace, the National Assembly building, the Slavija fountain, Branko's Bridge and Ada Bridge will all be illuminated in the colours of the Serbian flag, which he proudly wears on his jersey and celebrates victories around the world with," Vesic wrote on Facebook.
Djokovic's restaurant has also invited well-wishers to gather in front of the facility at 6 pm.
Djokovic's first entered the ATP list in July 2011 when he beat France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semi-finals at Wimbledon. Djokovic then beat Rafael Nadal in the finals and won the tournament for the first time.
A major rally was organized in Djokovic's honour in Belgrade after these successes, which over 100,000 people attended.
