For North Macedonia’s LGBT Community, Pride is Taste of Freedom
It's also due to his fear of disapproval and even violence from some of his compatriots. As a result, he tries hard not to attract too much attention on the streets.
"I wear plain clothes, usually jeans, like today. But I cannot hide it. How can you hide this beauty!" he laughs.
"Some people can truly blend in. Some are more masculine than me and can hide the fact they are gay, but that does not work for me. As soon as I start speaking, it is obvious, whether someone likes it or not - that's just me."
An event on Sunday, organised by the National Network Against Homophobia and Transphobia, held under the slogan "Outside the Walls", will emphasise the life of isolation and feelings hidden behind the confines of private spaces that so many members of the LGBT community experience.

Being careful in public
Outspoken, witty and joyful, Dejan does not leave the impression of someone hiding his true self. However, he says the motto of this year's parade resonates with him.
"People have no idea what it's like, for example not being able to hold hands with your partner in public, kiss or anything… That sometimes kills me inside, it suffocates me," he says.
At odds with his family since he came out in his teens, he shares his true personality and crack jokes only with a select group of friends. It is not easy.
"I spent my youth thinking there was something wrong with me. I did not fit in in school, my father has not spoken to me ever since [he came out], and it took years for me to figure things out, find myself and be confident," he recalls.
