Sparkasse acquires issuer of Diners Club cards in Slovenia

Ljubljana – The Slovenian branch of Sparkasse bank has acquired Erste Card, which has exclusive rights for issuing Diners Club cards in Slovenia, from the Croatian Erste Card Club. The contract was signed on Friday and still needs regulatory approval.

Sparkasse and Erste Card have been cooperating for years in offering personal and business Diners Club cards to Sparkasse clients.

The change in ownership will not affect the owners of Diners cards in any way, Sparkasse said on Monday.

Jurgen de Ruijter, a member of management board of the Croatian Erste Card Club, said Erste Card Slovenija had built and maintained a status of an important and successful player on the Slovenian credit card market.

“We are convinced that Erste Card Slovenija will continue its successful operations with strong support from its new owner,” he said.

Thomas Jurkowitsch, a member of the management of the Sparkasse bank, stressed that integrating Erste Card into the Sparkasse Group in Slovenia was an important and positive step.
