Albanian Exhibition Puts Faces of Dictatorship on Display

Hoxha was the First Secretary of Politburo until his death in 1985, when he was replaced by Ramiz Alia until the Communist regime was ousted. Also on display at the exhibition are portraits of officials from the state security service, senior police and judicial figures and chiefs of prison camps.

"On the wall at this exhibition are photos of the people who were responsible for important decisions related to violations of human rights and repression exercised by the Communist regime. Even after the fall of the regime, they did not face justice for the decisions that they took, nor did they show remorse for their actions," said the Institute for Democracy Media and Culture, which organised the exhibition with the Institute for the Study of the Crimes and Consequences of Communism.

The exhibition is being held as part of 'Memory Days', a series of events focusing on Albania's Communist past.
